Web hosting Provider Namecheap Now Accepts Payments via Bitcoin

Namecheap, a leading American based ICANN registrar with 3 million domains, today announced that it’ll now be accepting payments via Bitcoin, a peer to peer decentralized currency that enables instant payments to anyone located anywhere in the world. It has no central authority, so managing transactions and issuing money are carried out collectively by the P2P network. In addition to Bitcoin, the company also accepts payments via PayPal, Google CheckOut, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

The company began considering the acceptance of Bitcoin a while back and today announced that customers can use Bitcoins to purchase Namecheap’s range of services, which include domain names, Web hosting, SSL certificates and security programs. The move has come in light of heavy requests from tech audience regarding the same and is a part of Namecheap’s ongoing campaign to support online freedom.

Namecheap’s acceptance comes as a major boost to Bitcoin, which is is increasingly winning a place on the internet as a legitimate currency, but has had it’s share of dodgy past. Posing a tangible threat to centralised banking and the guardians of fiat money, Bitcoin won’t knock off the dollar any time soon; but it is clearly a force to be reckoned with.
