Fasthosts continues growth with new UK-based Virtual Private Servers

Fasthosts, one of the UK’s leading web hosting providers, has announced the launch their new Virtual Private Server (VPS) range, another innovation offered by the company to support growing businesses.

Hot on the heels of Bare Metal Servers and a new WordPress Hosting package released earlier this year, has seen Fasthosts focus on developing more flexible and scalable options to cater for the growing number of businesses and individuals seeking alternative approaches to tech investment and scalability.

David Ainscough, Product Owner, feels this new solution is the right fit for those seeking something in between a cloud and dedicated server.

“Our new Virtual Private Servers package is built on our cloud platform, so we have taken five years’ experience of managing, growing and enhancing that platform, and created a new virtual server offering with more reliability and options than others currently on the market,” said David Ainscough.

So, what is VPS for the uninitiated?

“Visualise a large server, or a cluster of servers, and divide them up into compartments that customers can claim as their own. They have full control over their environment, they can change all of the software settings and pretty much do anything they would do on a dedicated server, but for a fraction of the cost, because we’re looking after the main platform underneath it.”

“Users may not immediately realise they need a Virtual Private Server, they may, however, realise that they have outgrown their normal shared hosting when they discover they need more flexibility, or want to move away from noisy-neighbour syndrome, but don’t want the commitment of a dedicated server. Or perhaps a developer may want an inexpensive sandbox environment that can also accommodate three or four sites – which could contain anything from gaming to ecommerce.”

“Virtual Private Servers could be an ideal solution if you have found yourself at the point of wanting a powerful but flexible solution, whatever you need it for, without the dedicated price tag. The entire platform is built using SSD technology giving users very fast access to files and the speedy delivery of page views.”

“With a VPS, users can easily increase memory which makes applications like WordPress more responsive. They can run more plugins faster and more reliably, and deal with increased traffic by increasing resources, and by adding more to add they can add more websites or projects at any time!”

Fasthosts gives users the option to install the Plesk Control Panel on their VPS, providing a clean, easy-to-use web interface to manage the server on. This can be particularly useful when you’re hosting multiples sites on your VPS. “You can become a mini-web host yourself using the Plesk control panel,” confirms David.

“We wanted to develop something that our developers would want to use. So our Virtual Private Servers come with features that we feel give an added edge, making it ideal for developing and testing applications, running game servers and hosting websites – it really is an all-round performer!” “New users can set up their Virtual Private Servers quickly from the Fasthosts website, or if you’re already with us, it’s even easier and you can set up via your control panel.”

“Fasthosts is incredibly proud to be celebrating our 20th anniversary this year.  We are unique in that all of our Virtual Private Servers are located in Gloucestershire, with data held locally and staff on site at all times. It’s reassuring to tell people that their data never leaves our shores, it’s safe and secure at our HQ in Gloucester.”

60 percent of Gamers Experience Server Outages While Playing; 84 percent have Games Freeze on Them

According to a survey conducted by LeaseWeb at  Game Developers Conference San Francisco b/w  March 27, 2013 and March 29, 2013 which polled 100 gamers,  six out of 10 gamers experienced unplanned server outages while playing their favorite games,  and 84 percent  had games freeze or crash on them  in the middle of game-play.  The margin of error in survey is +/- 9.78 percentage points.

Go Daddy, the Web’s leading platform for small businesses, who very recently aired two titillating Super Bowl ads, one pushing .CO domain starring Danica Patrick and another titled ‘Perfect Match’ which  featured a 20 second intense lip-lock between supermodel Bar Refaeli and actor Jesse Heiman, has acquired M.dot Inc., the leading mobile app for small business website creation and management. The addition of M.dot to Go Daddy’s extensive product offerings gives Go Daddy’s 11 million customers an easy way to create and manage compelling mobile websites right from their smartphones. Financial terms of the M.dot acquisition have not been disclosed.

We’re looking forward to taking mobile software for small businesses to the next level with Go Daddy. We share the same vision for mobile. – Pavel Serbajlo, co-founder,M.dot .

Over the last three years, mobile Internet traffic has grown more than 10 times from one percent to 13 percent of total Web usage. In that same time period, smartphone and tablet shipments surpassed PCs. Go Daddy customers are using their smartphones to manage their online presence more and more everyday as a means to find and acquire customers. The M.dot acquisition provides Go Daddy’s customers with an innovative platform to capitalize on these trends.

M.dot was founded by Dominik Balogh and Pavel Serbajlo in June 2012. They have the backing of leading Silicon Valley investors including Floodgate, SV Angel and Archimedes Labs and have been featured by Apple in the iTunes App Store on multiple occasions. The company will operate from Go Daddy’s Silicon Valley office, which is a major new center of engineering and product design for the company. M.dot co-founder Dominik Balogh pointed out the shared values of the two companies. “Go Daddy is exactly the kind of technology company we wanted to join because they cater to and understand the small business customer,” Balogh said. “We’ve always believed small business is essential for a healthy economy and Go Daddy has extensive experience as the industry’s leading platform for small enterprises. Joining Go Daddy means our mobile software will now be accessible through much larger distribution channels and will help even more small businesses achieve greater success. It also gives us the benefit of integrating with Go Daddy’s immense customer support foundation, which I believe is a significant competitive advantage in this segment.”

“Go Daddy was built from scratch and is now a multi-billion dollar company – their industry expertise and achievements are inspiring,” said M.dot co-founder Pavel Serbajlo. “We’re looking forward to taking mobile software for small businesses to the next level with Go Daddy. GoDaddy Releases Second SuperBowl 2013 Ad titled Perfect Match; Bar Refaeli Lip-Locks a Nerd

The company teased us with a sneak peak version of the second commercial earlier, and they posted the full length version this evening.  GoDaddy Girl Danica Patrick narrates this commercial, which is called “Perfect Match.”

“There are two sides to Go Daddy,” begins longtime spokes-hottie Danica Patrick in the 30-second spot. “There’s the sexy side represented by Bar Refaeli. And the smart side that creates a killer website for your small business, represented by Walter. Together, they’re perfect.” Cue the lengthy makeout session between the supermodel and the super-nerd, of which the cameras make sure we don’t miss a single second. .  The idea behind the commercial is that Go Daddy creates the “perfect match” of sexy and smart. Attaboy, Walter! This one should really get people talking after the game.

I feel like the ‘Perfect Match’ commercial is a chance to be in an iconic Super Bowl spot that not only leaves people talking, but shows everyone what Go Daddy is really about. –Bar Refaeli.

BTW, for those who are wondering, the lucky “Walter” character is Hollywood extra Jesse Heiman. It’s  not just coincidence that Jesse was asked to appear in the commercial since he was a Go Daddy.com hosting customer long before he auditioned for the new Super Bowl gig. Heiman is known as “the world’s greatest extra,” having appeared in 140 movies and TV shows.

Model Bar Refaeli — whom GoDaddy signed around a month back has said-  “The opportunity to be in a Super Bowl commercial is thrilling.I feel like the ‘Perfect Match’ commercial is a chance to be in an iconic Super Bowl spot that not only leaves people talking, but shows everyone what Go Daddy is really about.”

The first one of the series, titled “YourBigIdea.CO” was revealed 6 days back, and showed couples around the world discussing great ideas that their husbands haven’t put online yet – and endedwith a couple who had put their idea online partying on their own luxurious private plane with Danica Patrick as their pilot and a “sky waitress” topping up their bubbly.

Go Daddy reveals Sneak Peek of Second Superbowl 2013 Ad starring Danica Patrick and Bar Refaeli-Perfect Match

GoDaddy has now posted “Sneak Preview” of its second Superbowl 2013 Ad starring Danica Patrick , model Bar Refaeli and Go Daddy customer and actor Jesse Heiman, who is representing “the smart side of Go Daddy’s support” to its customers. The full advertisement, titled “Perfect Match” will run in the game on Feb. 3. The previous one, titled “YourBigIdea.CO” was revealed 6 days back with a cameo by longtime Go Daddy girl Danica Patrick-who will have made a record 12 appearances in Super Bowl ads, all for Go Daddy, by the end of the Feb. 3 broadcast.

Although the previous one was a big departure for Go Daddy given the complete lack of bare skin or any sexual innuendo, the sneak peek of the new one,captioned- “You won’t believe what happens when sexy meets smart at Go Daddy!”seems to go back to the sexist themes that Go Daddy is notorious for. GoDaddy made a big splash with the announcement of actress and model Bar Refaeli being signed to star with Danica Patrick in one of its two 30-second Super Bowl commercials this year around a month back.

GoDaddy Posts First Super Bowl 2013 Ad Starring Danica Patrick Online, Pushes .CO Domain

GoDaddy has now posted one of the ads it will run in the game on Feb. 3, a 30-second spot called “YourBigIdea.CO” that encourages you to register a website for your big business idea before someone else gets there first. Longtime Go Daddy girl Danica Patrick—who will have made a record 12 appearances in Super Bowl ads, all for Go Daddy, by the end of the Feb. 3 broadcast—makes a cameo here as the pilot.

Titled “YourBigIdea.CO, created by Deutsch in New York, the ad shows couples around the world discussing great ideas that their husbands haven’t put online yet – and ends with a couple who had put their idea online partying on their own luxurious private plane with Danica Patrick as their pilot and a “sky waitress” topping up their bubbly.

The ad is a big departure for Go Daddy given the complete lack of bare skin or any sexual innuendo and doesn’t really promote .co that much. Sure, .co sits on the screen the whole time, the URL on the screen is GoDaddy.com, and the announcer tells you to register your .co domain at the end. Although that’s a lot of screen time for .co, we think the commercial’s message could have been used just as easily to promote another top level domain.

GoDaddy has a second ad planned for the game. That one will star GoDaddy regular Danica Patrick , model Bar Refaeli and Go Daddy customer and actor Jesse Heiman, who will represent “the smart side of Go Daddy’s support” to its customers. The company has not decided whether to release the second commercial before the Super Bowl or let viewers see it for the first time during the game. “We are debating that,” a spokeswoman said Friday morning. “We will definitely have a teaser out next week.”

Web HSP Launches Compliance Service for E-Commerce Vendors in North America

Web hosting provider Web HSP announced last week that it has launched a new service to help simplify the PCI DSS compliance process for e-commerce vendors.Web HSP offers its new service designed for small business owners as well as hosting companies who can offer it to their own clients. With the new compliance service, online merchants can access and log customer credit card information from any website, while streamlining the PCI DSS compliance process in a few steps.

The service offers complete customization so vendors can design their own templates. Technicians at Web HSP assist clients to match the credit card fields to the merchant’s design template, which builds the optimal set-up for each scenario.

Ensuring PCI DSS compliance can be complex for small business owners, so this service aims at simplifying the process of becoming PCI DSS compliant. The support offered by Web HSP will give its e-commerce clients more confidence that credit card information is secure. Compliance-focused services have paid off for other web hosts.

“With highly publicized data breaches trending up, business owners need to take a much closer look at credit card security and PCI DSS compliance,” Doug Davis, CEO of Web HSP said in a statement. “Whether a vendor is new to e-commerce, or has concerns about their current PCI DSS compliance status, handling it alone exposes their company to significant risk. ”

The new compliance service uses a solution where merchants are able to store customer credit card information into their own data valuts. The information can be stored on any computer, which Web HSP said can never be decrypted outside of the system. In case it ends up in the wrong hands, the codes can’t be used to breach credit card data.

Web HSP uses technology that can be embedded into any application, capturing credit card and card verification values or code fields, leaving the rest of the fields on the merchant’s website untouched. The system has been integrated to support all major payment gateways, including Paypal Payflow Pro, Authorize.net and iPay.
