CloudSigma Promotes Public Cloud IaaS with new White Paper

Keeping in mind that flexibility has been cited as the most important aspect of the public cloud by 57 percent of industry experts,  CloudSigma, an Infrastructure as a service cloud hosting provider,  has released a white paper, “CloudSigma and its Flexible, Elastic and Transparent Public Cloud IaaS,” comparing several of today’s top public cloud IaaS providers with regards to their flexibility, customizability and transparency to help companies make the right public cloud choice for their business.

Written by David Strom, a leading expert on networking and Internet communications, this white paper will benefit organizations looking to obtain a thorough understanding of various IaaS solutions, including the customer-centric mindset behind one of the most innovative providers on the market.

While this white paper references a variety of popular public cloud offerings, including those from Amazon, Rackspace, Cloudshare, Terremark Savvis, GoGrid, Verizon and  IBM, the introductory passage of the  paper itself establishes it as a  pretty explicit piece of promotional material for CloudSigma with  slanted comparison. Consider this, for instance:

“If you are looking for a capable cloud provider that lets you have a lot of flexibility, is transparent when it comes to cost calculations, and comes with ability to support many different virtual machine configurations, then you should consider CloudSigma’s solution,” writes the report’s author David Strom in its introduction.

However, it provides interesting insight  into  what one popular cloud hosting provider considers the major selling points of its service – differentiation being a challenge all service providers face in attempting to deliver a unique take on the IaaS cloud. It’s also a look at the kind of marketing customers are likely to see from other providers which might help a service provider appreciate the pros about its own service that ought to be flaunted.

The paper emphasizes on a plethora of considerations while evaluating IaaS providers – number of virtual machine choices cloud providers give, bundled  and prepackaged servers, ability to burst CPU, web-based dashboard, ease of obtaining IP address, extra charges for OS and API access to VM. One other area of emphasis is the availability of SSD storage as a component of virtual machines, which CloudSigma added to its cloud hosting environment just an year ago , and is now offered as an option in set-up menu by them.

They wrapped-up the paper by providing a Iaas summary comparison table between various companies and a claim that CloudSigma offers the right mix of VM flexibility, price transparency, granularity of pricing and the ability to customize cloud the way it makes the most sense for one’s particular needs. Also promised is an unrivalled price/performance and predictable costs that take the uncertainly and monthly “bill shock” out of cloud computing.

For those interested, the whitepaper is now available for download on CloudSigma’s website.

CloudSigma Introduces SSD Storage Product In Public Cloud IaaS

DAILYHOSTNEWS, November 14, 2011 –  CloudSigma, an international, pure-play cloud server and virtual data center provider, launched the solid-state drive (SSD) storage solution for a public cloud IaaS environment at the 2011 Cloud Computing Expo.

The Company said the new solution is designed to help eliminate the storage bottlenecks and variable performance in the cloud brought on by traditional magnetic-based storage solutions’ inability to keep pace with the requirements of a multi-tenant environment.

With CloudSigma’s SSD storage product, companies can achieve higher performance than dedicated or private cloud arrangements, even in a public cloud, multi-tenant environment. Being able to handle the explosion of input/output (I/O) operations caused by the increasing adoption of server virtualization was identified by CloudSigma at an early stage as a key success factor for its cloud.

According to a release, the growth in large-scale virtual deployments has caused a surge in the amount of random I/Os between virtual machines (VMs) and magnetic storage systems. As I/O operations become even more random in multi-tenant, public cloud environments, magnetic storage solutions that rely on physical, spinning disks simply cannot keep up. Additionally, pathways to storage systems are only so big and this rise in errant I/Os causes a massive performance bottleneck for storage systems and networks.

With a solution like CloudSigma’s SSD storage, however, CloudSigma noted that companies have the ability to create a tiered storage system by staging critical application data and files on SSD, which effectively gets rid of the CPU wait time. This multi drive-to-server model significantly enhances system performance, as eliminating CPU wait time results in better resource utilization and cost performance.

Additionally, since SSD storage doesn’t have physical moving parts like magnetic storage solutions, it can handle the more random nature of I/O loads in public cloud environments, while sustaining a higher level of performance and without slowing down. This allows for significantly higher I/O bandwidth with lower, more stable data access latencies. To support higher bandwidth and lower latency requirements, CloudSigma has already upgraded its cloud to 10GigE networking.
