Cloud Hosting Comes Out as a Winner! Here’s Why…

When cloud technology first arrived, nobody was sure how significant the outcome would be on the businesses. Eventually it started creating a buzz in the market. Cloud technology has transformed in a way how a business operates, in addition to time and cost saving. This has resulted in it becoming one of the most commonly used technologies over the last decade. Right from SMEs to mid-size to a fully established business -everyone is shifting to the cloud. That’s because this technology increases scalability and serves higher performance.

Cloud technology has expanded its roots in the hosting environment as well. In simple terms, to understand cloud hosting, one can refer to the policy of ‘Divide and Rule’. Your website needs some resources to run. These resources are divided across multiple machines throughout the network that can be made available as per the need.

Unplanned Traffic Spikes

A sudden increase in website traffic may be a good sign for your business. It ultimately will help in generating more leads, which means more sales. But have you ever thought that a sudden traffic rise could do more damage than profit? Think of a glass of water being filled more than its capacity. Can it hold more water than its capacity? No, Right? The water will start overflowing in that case.

Similarly, when there is a sudden surge in your website traffic, it can harm the website’s functionalities and go beyond the limit of maximum server resources allocated for the website. This increases the load on the server and the site may fail to respond to a visitor’s request. Even though your site is optimized for excellent speed, the server may outburst, if it gets overloaded. The site will slow down and become non-responsive for visitor’s use, resulting in customer disappointments and affecting business revenue.

If you wish to take advantage of this high incoming traffic to your site and generate profit out of it then its time you migrate your website to the cloud. Cloud hosting immensely diminishes any chances of downtime in situation of server break down. It instantly allocates resources on-demand basis.

Downtimes are Intolerable

If the server goes down for any reason, your website becomes inaccessible for that particular span of time. Downtime affects your website’s SEO, sales & reputation and nobody wants that! All the businesses work hard to reach the aim to achieve zero percent of website downtime. But you cannot control the inevitable. There are several reasons that make the server unavailable such as server overloading, unavailability of resources, etc.

The solution to this problem lies in cloud hosting, as the resources are divided across various servers on the cloud network. In case one server fails, there is already another server to take hold of the website.

Cost Management

Your website requirements may expand anytime. You will opt for a server plan with more resources. What if most of the time you don’t need the actual resources that you are paying for? You are over paying in such cases as you need to pay fixed amount irrespective of your actual usage. This happens mostly with traditional hosting. For example, you book a hotel room, you pay per reservation. Right from the time of check-in to the moment you check-out, you get charged for the total duration the room was utilized regardless of how many facilities or how long you have actually used the room.

In cloud hosting environment, you don’t need to pay fixed cost. The cloud hosting works on pay per use model. You pay only for the resources that you utilize. You can compare this model to your electricity usage. The similarity between both the technologies is that they provide you resources on-demand basis and you need to pay only for the amount of resources you have used.

Future of Cloud Technology

  • The fastest-growing technology in the market on today’s date is cloud technology. According to Gartner, Inc. public cloud service market is expected to grow from $153.5 billion to $186.4 billion in 2018.
  • The SaaS market is expected to reach $73.6 billion in 2018.
  • 83% of enterprise workloads will operate on public cloud platforms by 2020.

Other Trends

Multi cloud strategy

  • According to Rightscale survey, multi cloud is preferred strategy among enterprises.
  • 81% of enterprises use multi cloud strategy.

Industry-specific cloud computing

  • For fulfilling the unique requirements, industry-specific cloud will become standard.
  • User base will become more diverse.

Hybrid Cloud

  • Enterprises will prefer hybrid cloud over public cloud server, as predicted by Nasscom Community.
  • This can result in launching of API platforms by cloud providers.

Cloud technology is growing even faster than expected. It has come a long way over the last few years. We are seeing more and more businesses are being shifted to the cloud as it is helping to meet business challenges. Several enterprises prefer using cloud hosting as they are aware about the advantages of cloud hosting.

Hosting Innovation Interviews News

“24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days an year, we’re always open”- Andy Johnson, eleven2

With a gazillion web hosting companies out there claiming 99% uptime, unlimited resources, and knowledgeable support; cutting through jargon and making an informed decision of choosing the right web host can be a herculean task. I choose the word ‘right’ and not ‘perfect’ because the kind of web host best suited for you depends, among various other factors, on your business and the type of website you want to host.

And this, I believe is a factor which makes Eleven2 stand out. They’re a great choice for just about any business and any type of website. There are companies who specialize in low-price shared hosting, and are suitable for personal or very small business websites with low traffic. And there are companies who specialize in dedicated & VPS hosting and their expensive plans are suitable for only the blue mammoths. Eleven2 is unique in a way that it brings together the best of both worlds. They can offer feature -rich plans to those with greater needs, and at the same time compete with companies that specialize in low-price hosting; which is probably due to the fact that it is a company born out of need, by a man who couldn’t find a decent hosting solution, and thus decided to come up with his own.

There are loads of other features to like about the company too, but I’ll let Mr. Andy Johnson, Creative Director, eleven2 do the talking.

An Interview with Mr. Andy Johnson, Creative Director, Eleven2 Hosting.

We are effectively a “Web Based” company. We wouldn’t exist without the internet. Web trends and standards are moving so quickly. The mobile world is growing, more people are using smartphones than ever before. We are taking advantage of changes like this, by developing more mobile based hosting tools for our customer base. And that’s just one example of how we’re adapting to change.

– Mr. Andy Johnson, Creative Director, eleven2.

Mr. Andy Johnson, Creative Director, eleven2.
Mr. Andy Johnson, Creative Director, eleven2.

Q : What is your name and role with eleven2? How long have you been in this role?

A : My name is Andy Johnson, and I am the Creative Director here at eleven2. I have been in this role for almost three years now! I joined the e2 team back in July 2010.

Q : For those who don’t know what eleven2 is, can you please brief it a bit?

A: Eleven2 is a web hosting provider comprised of talented designers, developers, musicians, film makers, business owners, writers, photographers, and much more. We host over 100,000 websites, and have been in business ten years now. We offer Shared Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Cloud Servers, VPS’s and Dedicated Servers.

Q: Let’s start all the way back to the Starbucks coffee shop. How did eleven2 come into being?

A: I have only been on the team three years, but Rodney Giles founded the company back in 2003, inside a Starbucks coffee shop. I believe Rodney was working as a freelancer, and couldn’t find a decent hosting solution. Going back and forth between different hosting companies, Rodney then decided to start his own. Thus, eleven2 was born.

Q: eleven2 has seen major growth since its inception in February 2004. When you look back, what is one factor that you would say contributed most to your growth?

A: There are many factors that have contributed to our growth over the years. Design is a key player. We focus a lot of time on making our front-end and back-end control panel’s user interfaces look the very best they can. Customers like simplicity, and to be able to manage their hosting easily.

Another factor that has contributed to our growth, is our support. We are here 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. We never close our doors. Although our phones are only open during the week, our livechat team are available 24/7 via livechat, and our technicians never stop monitoring our network. Our feature offering is extremely rich (litespeed & cloudlinux), and our pricing is also unbeatable (for the features you receive).

Q : eleven2 launched a Dedicated server range in June last year. Now it’s a competitive dedicated server market out there. What makes Eleven2 better than others? Why should customers pick up your dedicated server plans over others?

A: Unlike other providers, eleven2’s Dedicated Server range comes fully managed. Your server will be monitored by our technicians 24 hours a day. Our server pricing is extremely competitive, when you look at the specification of our servers. We built our Dedicated platform with flexibility in mind. As customers’ sites grow, they can increase RAM, HDD space, and much more, making us the ideal server partner for growth going forward.

Q: Can you tell our readers about various types of hosting and reseller plans eleven2 offers today?

A: We offer a variety of hosting plans at the moment (with more products launching in Q2 this year). Our shared hosting platform is ideal for small – medium sized websites. We offer four shared hosting plans, and our entire server network runs LiteSpeed & Cloudlinux.

LiteSpeed is able to deliver static content up to 6x faster than Apache web server, and PHP content 50% faster. Combine that with CloudLinux, where each customer is isolated in their own lightweight virtualized environment and you get incredible reliability and uptime.

With our Reseller plans, customers get a free dedicated IP address, and WHM control panel to manage all their different websites with their own cPanel account. Resellers also get free billing software. We currently offer WHMCS and ClientExec to our Resellers. Our reseller hosting plans all run on LiteSpeed and CloudLinux too.

We are also launching VPS’s and Cloud Servers in Q2 this year. Stay tuned.

Q: Must say, the e2Brain’s Network Status System looks really promising and streamlines hosting services in a way that’s unprecedented. What was your thought process behind coming up with this feature?

A: We wanted to develop a system that alerts customers when there are issues. What we found was happening, is say for example when a server went down, we would get 50 support tickets all about the same issue. We didn’t think it was a good use of technicians’ time replying to duplicate tickets over and over again.

o we came up with our e2 Network Status system. Customers are alerted if there is an issue with one of their services. This way, we can keep everyone in the loop about problems / issues, and utilize our technical resources to maximum potential.

Eleven2 implements CloudLinux & Litespeed!Q: This one is regarding implementation of CloudLinux on eleven2’s servers. How significant was its impact on the uptime on all servers? And how has the response been from customer side?

A: Customers love CloudLinux. And our technicians do too. It helps our infrastructure run much smoother, compared to other Linux versions. Since implementing CloudLinux, we have noticed a big increase in server stability. It helps us to isolate resources on an account basis.

Q: What do you have to say about LiteSpeed Web Server? As someone who has implemented it, how effectively does LiteSpeed replace Apache?

A: We really love using LiteSpeed here at eleven2. It was a big investment, as we have so many servers in our infrastructure, but it’s been well worth it. Our customers websites load static content 6x faster, compared to Apache. PHP also has had a 50% increase in performance.

Q: There were new developments and re-inventions in e2Panel a while back. Can you let us know more about the newly integrated ‘Real-time analytics’?

A: Last summer (2012), we actually re-designed the User Interface of our e2Panel. Then in October we got in contact with a lead live-analytics company called GoSquared. I personally went and paid them a visit, and met with the team to discuss how we could go about implementing real-time analytics into e2Panel, using GoSquared’s platform.

We began to play with their API to create some real cool real-time data, and quickly put a plan of action together. In December, we rolled out real-time analytics to all eleven2 customers. Customers just have to spend one minute linking a GoSquared account to their e2Panel, and voila, you can see a snapshot of what’s occurring live on your website, every time you login to e2Panel!
Real-time Web Analytics Inside e2Panel!

Q: Tell our readers a bit about team eleven2?

A: We are an extremely strong team here at eleven2. Everyone enjoys working, and being part of the company. We do like to live by the phrase “Work hard, Play hard”. Our company never closes it’s doors either. 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year, we’re always open. You could even livechat or submit a ticket on Christmas day and our technicians will be here to help you.

Q: Our standard question to wrap things up, what’s in the bag for 2013?

A: I can’t really give too much away at this stage, but we are constantly looking for new ways to help customers. Our development team is always thinking up innovative ideas that make life easier for our clients. And our team in the lab is always hard at work developing new products. In Q2 of this year, we are launching a VPS range, along with an entirely brand new Cloud Infrastructure.

It’s not just changes in the hosting industry you need to take account for.

We have a huge array of projects in the works, and our team here are always pushing for innovation.

ViUX Deploys ParallelsCloud Server for Managed CloudHosting and CloudStorage in advance of Parallels Summit

In advance of the Parallels Summit 2013 next week in Las Vegas, Parallels Gold Partner, ViUX Systems announces deployment of Parallels Cloud Server for high-availability Managed Cloud Hosting on new Dell PowerEdge C-Series servers. In recent weeks ViUX added DomainsBot API to help find Premium Domains on Sedo, launched an affiliate referral program, enabled Smarter Tools API for instant provisioning of license keys for SmarterMail, SmarterStats and SmarterTrack and offered SmarterTools Software Bundle. In a recent interview with DailyHostNews, Mr. Jonathan Smith, CEO, ViUX Systems, indicated that “most of the services that we offer now and will launch this year are in some way based upon a Parallels software product.” Over the coming months ViUX Systems plans to continue deploying new Dell servers and upgrading existing servers with Parallels Cloud Server software – replacing prior stand-alone deployments of Parallels Virtuozzo Containers and Parallels Server Bare-Metal, which ViUX has used successfully dating back to 2006.

Parallels Cloud Server is an amazing cost saver for ViUX in that it allows us to do that which would otherwise require an expensive SAN, while making the ViUX Cloud more reliable thereby further saving on support costs. – J.T. Smith, CEO,ViUX Systems.

Parallels Cloud Server transforms how ViUX Systems delivers Cloud Servers by combining Parallels Cloud Storage with Parallels Containers and Parallels Hypervisor – to dramatically improve the reliability, performance, and density of ViUX servers, as well as, increase profitability. It is an important step in the evolution of the ViUX Cloud, as it includes revolutionary Cloud Storage technology, which will significantly improve the availability and performance of ViUX Cloud Servers – with elastic, scalable Parallels Cloud Storage at its core.

Parallels Cloud Storage uses the existing unused disk space on ViUX servers to deliver Cloud Storage at a fraction of the cost of competing solutions. This provides for ViUX: fault tolerance (no single point of failure); high performance (equivalent to local disks versus network storage devices); and the lowest cost Cloud Storage solution available to benefit ViUX Cloud Hosting customers.

Parallels Cloud Server includes: Parallels Containers, the highest density, highest performance Cloud Server virtualization solution (formerly Parallels Virtuozzo Containers), enabling near instant provisioning with no operating system updates required by the customer; and Parallels Hypervisor (formerly Parallels Server Bare-Metal) giving ViUX the flexibility to create Virtual Machines for customers who prefer to manage and maintain their own operating systems – all controlled by the hosting automation and billing system that ViUX has also used since 2006, Parallels Business Automation Standard (PBAS).

Each Dell PowerEdge C-Series server that ViUX deploys has approximately 4TB of storage per node (with 4 nodes per server), and Parallels Cloud Storage takes this disk space and combines it into one large Cloud Storage pool upon which ViUX VPS Containers and Virtual Machines running on each node are replicated across the storage pool – for both high performance and fault tolerance. Using Parallels Cloud Server and other software systems from Parallels, ViUX has deployed a super-efficient and highly automated Cloud Hosting Infrastructure from which a wide range of Web Hosting and Managed Cloud Services are offered, such as: Shared Cloud Hosting; Private Cloud Servers; Dynamic Dedicated Servers, etc… that appeal to the broadest possible customer base.

ViUX Offers SmarterTools Software Bundle

ViUX Systems is now a SmarterTools Bundle Provider, allowing ViUX to “bundle” SmarterTools software along with Windows Virtual Private Servers /Private Cloud Serversand Dynamic Dedicated Servers. The news comes just a few days after ViUX Systems updated their online ordering system for SmarterTools Software to use the API for provisioning license keys instantly. They were also in news for  integrating DomainsBot API into the Domain Name search function, and  their newly launched affiliate program.

The SmarterTools Software Bundle (an $800 value), includes licenses for: SmarterMail Professional (250 Mailboxes); SmarterStats Profesional (50 Sites); and SmarterTrack Professional (2 Agents) – as a Software Bundle at no additional cost beyond that of the server itself.

ViUX customers ordering a Cloud Server or Dedicated Server with Windows are now presented with the option of selecting the SmarterTools Bundle within the [Server Software] section of the configuration / order form for: [Mail Server]; [Stats Server]; and/or [Support Server]. This enables the SmarterTools Bundle option for the selected server function(s) and prompts the auto-install of the related application and automatic license provisioning via the SmarterTools API.

If all three applications offered within the SmarterTools Bundle from ViUX are not needed, customers may deselect any as desired, such as if only SmarterMail and/or SmarterStats are needed, but SmarterTrack is not. This will result in only those selected applications being installed on the new server, but licenses will still be provided for all three as a part of the SmarterTools Bundle should the customer later wish to try the other application(s).

To aid customers in configuring their server properly, the server configuration form will pre-select enough Memory and CPU resources to handle the selected software, and there may be a one-time setup / install fee applied for each selected application; however the software licenses are provided for the customer to keep and use for as long as they wish.

Since ViUX is also a Reseller and Lease-Reseller of SmarterTools software, upgrades from the versions and editions of the software provided in the SmarterTools Bundle are always available from at
