1&1 Internet Launches New gTLD Pre-Order Portal and a Cloud Server Package

Global Web hosting provider 1&1 Internet has today made two major announcements – launch of a gTLD Pre-Order Portal and a new cloud server package.

The news comes nearly two months after 1 and 1 Internet added Artful.ly, CraftIsArt, Meetup and Wanelo web apps to 1&1 MyWebsite and launched its Microsoft Exchange 2013 Hosting services.

New gTLD Pre-Order Portal

The new gTLD Pre-Order Portal allows website owners to pre-order the new gTLDs that’ll hit the market soon and provides domain news, expert advice articles and practical tips to plan a domain portfolio.

Website owners can browse the new domain endings at the portal and make a risk-free pre-order for the domain of their choice. This pre-order does not guarantee that a domain will be purchased, however, it is a useful step in exploring several options within the new web addresses.

1 and 1 Internet New gTLD Pre-Order Portal

“A new era in Internet addresses promises great opportunities for every business online. However, research released in March shows that the majority of SMEs are still unaware of the launch of new gTLDs,” said Robert Hoffmann, CEO Hosting, 1&1 Internet Ltd.

“1&1’s new pre-order portal comprises an excellent resource for website owners to learn about their options, pre-order their new domains now, and benefit from 1&1’s global scale and competence with domain registration,” he added.

It is ideal for companies with frequently changing resource requirements and for startups that cannot accurately estimate the computing power needed for their online projects.

The latest generation Dynamic Cloud Server offers a number of distinct differentiators that can result in a transformation of efficiencies. The user enjoys the best of both worlds – dedicated highly reliable resources as well as completely dynamic scalability. – Robert Hoffmann, CEO Hosting, 1&1 Internet.

NTT Communications Plans to Launch On-premises Connection, an SDN-based Cloud Migration Service

NTT Communications Corporation plans to launch  the ‘On-premises Connection’, world’s first software-defined networking (SDN)-based cloud migration service. The service will launched on July 28 in Japan and  later in other markets worldwide.

On-premises Connection service will connect  customer on-premises systems with NTT Com’s Enterprise Cloud via the Internet using SDN technology to facilitate smooth, flexible transitions to the cloud.

The SDN technology has been developed by NTT Com in partnership with VMware, and a research institute operated by parent NTT Corporation.

Some of the key features of the new service are:

  • The new service will substantially reduce the workload  required to design and configure on-premises networks by connecting on-premises systems and cloud in the same network segment using SDN-compatible gateway equipment installed in the customer’s system.
  • Customers can use the existing IP addresses of their on-premises systems post-migration to the cloud environment.
  • Highly secure, encrypted data can be transferred between on-premises systems and Enterprise Cloud via the Internet at up to 100 Mbps.
  • Customers can make changes like adjusting bandwidth to transfer large data in off-peak hours very promptly using the SDN technology.
  • Existing Internet connection lines can be used for cloud migration by the customers.
  • Payment for the service, including gateway equipment, is on a per-day basis. This on-demand use helps to minimize the cost of cloud migration. because

The pricing details of the On-premises Connection are:

  • The initial cost of installing gateway equipment at the customer’s site is 220,000 yen.
  • The daily charge is 10,800 yen.
  • The maximum monthly charge has is 223,000 yen.

The news comes a three months after Joyent Cloud Platform began offering Cloudant Database as a Service.

Joyent Manta Storage Service has an an easy-to-use interface which removes the need of managing infrastructure and enables enterprises to durably and securely store big data and then process that it using any program or tool run in a standard UNIX environment.

The object storage service also reduces the cost while eliminating the burden of frameworks and clustering typically associated with large volumes of unstructured data. Developers, system administrators, data analysts and scientists now have the storage engine to store and process any amount of data at any time quickly and affordably.

Some of the features of the new service are:

  • REST with JSON API.
  • Multiple data center replication with per object replication controls.
  • Unlimited number of objects with no size limit per object.
  • Read-after-write consistency.
  • Arbitrary object versioning using SnapLink.
  • A filesystem-like interface (directories, objects and links).
  • MapReduce processing with arbitrary scripts and code without data transfer.
Joyent Manta Storage Service ushers in a new era of innovation in data storage and analytics, as it takes a process that was once prohibitively expensive and time-consuming and completely turns it on its head. By completely changing the economics of data management, Manta allows businesses across all industries to unlock the potential of the next generation of data services. – Henry Wasik, President and CEO, Joyent. Henry Wasik, President and CEO, Joyent

The execution of various compute tasks such as log analysis, search index generation, financial analysis and other data-intensive tasks can now be done without any data movement or any setup of compute clusters or processing software.

Code is brought in parallel to physical servers in secure containers while data is automatically merged using the industry-standard Map/Reduce pattern.

Some of the use cases of the new service are:

  • Running a checksum over data to assure its integrity.
  • Log processing: clickstream analysis, MapReduce on logs.
  • Text processing including search.
  • Image processing: converting formats, generating thumbnails, resizing.
  • Video processing: transcoding, extracting segments, resizing.
  • Data Analysis and Mining: using standard tools like NumPy, SciPy and R.

Joyent has partnered with data storage management company Panzura to ensure that enterprise customers can quickly, easily and securely migrate large volumes of unstructured data from existing NAS, backup and archive storage solutions to Joyent Manta Storage Service.

“Joyent Manta Storage Service ushers in a new era of innovation in data storage and analytics, as it takes a process that was once prohibitively expensive and time-consuming and completely turns it on its head,” said Henry Wasik, president and CEO, Joyent.

“By completely changing the economics of data management, Manta allows businesses across all industries to unlock the potential of the next generation of data services,” he added.
