Flexential to expand data center capacity by adding over 110MW across Atlanta and Hillsboro

2 Mins read

Flexential, a leading provider of data center colocation, cloud, connectivity, and data protection services, has unveiled its plans for substantial capacity growth on the national FlexAnywhere™ Platform. As part of these plans, the company is constructing a new 36MW phased development at its Atlanta-Douglasville campus in Georgia, bolstering the previously announced 22.5MW project. The first phases of the 22.5MW facility are expected to be available to customers this year.

Flexential also revealed its plans to complete the first phase of the Hillsboro 4 facility in Portland by the fall of 2023. The company has outlined plans to break ground on its fifth facility in the Hillsboro market, which will add two new data centers to the area. This expansion aligns with its goal to increase capacity on the FlexAnywhere™ Platform by an additional 54 MW in Oregon.

These new projects will incorporate Flexential’s latest sustainable design, emphasizing high efficiency. The company aims to achieve a Power Usage Efficiency (PUE) of 1.4 and zero Water Usage Efficiency (WUE) to qualify for funding under its Green Finance Framework. Furthermore, Flexential’s fifth-generation design is optimized to meet the escalating power and density requirements of AI and GPU-driven high-performance compute deployments.

Flexential has been operating in Atlanta for over two decades, with three interconnected data centers across different business regions. The planned expansions in Atlanta-Douglasville will complement the existing facilities and further solidify Flexential’s presence in the region.

Flexential’s expansion in the Hillsboro market, specifically with the Hillsboro 4 and 5 projects, is strategically located adjacent to the company’s largest development to date, the 36MW Hillsboro 3 data center. The expansion plans aim to meet the increasing demands of Flexential’s rapidly growing customer base in the area.

Additionally, the new Hillsboro facilities will offer direct connections to Flexential’s Network Access Point (NAP) of the Northwest, a vital global interconnection hub. The new Hillsboro expansion projects will meet and exceed the growth objectives of both colocation and scale customers. At full build, the projects will deliver 54MW of capacity, making it one of the largest scale data center footprints in Oregon. The projects will also offer access to over 110MW of actively deployed capacity in the market.

Flexential’s network interconnection options

Flexential is revolutionizing network connectivity and simplifying colocation to cloud integration with its suite of solutions. The company’s private 100 Gbps network backbone improves response times, network reliability, and performance for end users. The national availability of the 40Gbps IP Bandwidth offering provides highly reliable and low-latency connections across all Flexential facilities without the need for additional networking hardware.

The Interconnection Mesh solution streamlines data center interconnection, allowing for any-to-any connections and easy network expansion. The Layer 3 VPN multipoint service simplifies colo to cloud connectivity by providing secure Flexential routed connections between sites. Finally, the Flexential Cloud Fabric enables seamless deployment of hybrid IT solutions by offering direct and low-latency connections to leading cloud providers. These solutions collectively enhance network performance and simplify operations for businesses.
