Epsilon has been awarded Platinum status by the London Internet Exchange (LINX) under its ConneXions Partner Programme. The upgrade comes after a recent significant expansion of Epsilon’s managed capacity for connecting customers to the exchange via its Remote Peering service.

As a Platinum partner, Epsilon has been recognized by LINX for enabling regional and global network service providers and managed service providers to efficiently grow their presence with LINX and manage surging IP traffic demand.

The global connectivity provider serves a variety of customers which include gaming and digital media companies, over-the-top (OTT) providers and cloud computing service providers. Epsilon is able to bring global networks to two of LINX’s key interconnection hubs, London being one and also their exchange in Northern Virginia, LINX NoVA.

In March 2020, LINX saw a record-breaking peak traffic of 5.26 Tbps driven by growing internet usage in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Remote working, increased content consumption and growing usage of cloud-based applications and services have driven record-breaking traffic volumes across the world’s largest internet exchanges (IXs).

“Increased internet usage is driving the demand for remote peering. We are enabling our customers to scale-up to meet growing demand, ensuring they can continue to deliver an optimized end-user experience,” said Mark Daley, Director of Digital Strategy & Business Development at Epsilon.

Japan’s SBI Holdings Makes a $20m Strategic Investment in OpenLegacy

SBI’s investment accelerates its Internet banking and Moneytap initiatives while opening the door for OpenLegacy to the world’s second-largest mainframe market after the United States.

Tokyo-based SBI Holdings, the leading Japanese financial services company, has made a $20 million strategic investment in OpenLegacy, the market leader in microservice-based APIs for legacy and core systems.

SBI has made the investment based on OpenLegacy’s long-term technology promise as well as to accelerate its own digital transformation activities, using OpenLegacy’s technology to spearhead two key strategic efforts: building Internet banking across SBI’s growing portfolio of Japanese banks, and instituting Moneytap, a blockchain-based payment application in Japan and globally.

“OpenLegacy will enable our portfolio companies to quickly launch digital innovations, integrating, leveraging, and extending our legacy systems in a fraction of the time, all without changing the underlying systems,” said Yoshitaka Kitao, SBI Holdings President & CEO.

OpenLegacy’s platform is already being leveraged by Fortune 500 companies like Citi, Liberty Mutual, FIS, and BNP Paribas-Cardif, to name a few.

The solution reduces the time, cost and risk normally associated with digital transformation by connecting directly to legacy systems, automatically generating microservice-based APIs, and deploying on-premises or in the cloud. OpenLegacy reduces total cost of ownership by bypassing layers of middleware and delivers digital services without changing the back-end legacy system.

Cloud backup and recovery feature now available for Microsoft Authenticator on Android

Microsoft has announced the availability of cloud backup and recovery for the Microsoft Authenticator app on Android. Now, Android users can use this feature to back up their credentials to cloud, and then easily transfer the credentials to new devices whenever needed.

Microsoft Authenticator is an app that is designed to help users securely sign into their accounts via two-factor authentication (TFA) process. This can enable users to have access to all Microsoft products and services without the need to add a password.

There is also a feature of Auto Backup in the app settings which will sync all the accounts the users set up. To turn this ON, users can navigate to Settings, then under Backup, turn the Cloud backup toggle on. Once toggled on, the account credentials of the users will be encrypted and stored with their Microsoft account.

“Once you turn cloud backup on, your data is encrypted and stored with your personal Microsoft account. Your account credentials stay updated when you add, delete, or edit your accounts,” wrote Alex Simons, Director of Program Management, Microsoft in a blog post.

These capabilities are generally available now for devices having Android version 6.6.0+. Users will need to update their app to start using the new features. The new feature requires users to use the same personal Microsoft account on the new device.

Microsoft will launch this feature first to the iOS app for its beta testers. Users can apply for the private preview here.

Millions of Exim email servers vulnerable to cyber attacks

A critical vulnerability has been found in millions of Exim servers which once exploited can enable potential attacker to run arbitrary code with root privileges.

All versions of Exim servers up to and including 4.92.1 that accept TLS connections are vulnerable, according to Exim team.

“The vulnerability is exploitable by sending a SNI ending in a backslash-null sequence during the initial TLS handshake. The exploit exists as a POC,” wrote Exim in a recent advisory.

The Exim team on September 4 published a warning on OSS Security mailing list regarding the security bug that was affecting Exim. On Friday, the team released the version 4.92.2 to address the critical issue.

This vulnerability in the Exim server (CVE-2019-15846) was discovered in July by a security researcher called “Zerons”. It allows an unauthenticated attacker to take advantage of the TLS ServerName Indicator and use this to send malicious code on servers that accept TLS connections.

The Exim software is a mail transfer agent (MTA) that works as a general and flexible mailer with extensive facilities for checking incoming e-mail. This software is widely popular, available for Linux and Windows, and is used by millions of internet-facing hosts. It is estimated to have served 57% of publicly reachable email servers on the internet.

Exim has full control of emails in cPanel. Thus, this issue is serious as remote access by any unknown attacker would lead to get the complete control of a vulnerable Exim server.

The Exim advisory highly encourages to update to the latest Exim 4.92.2 version immediately. In case users are unable to install the new version, they can simply ask their package maintainer for the updated version containing the backported fix.

Firefox 69 enables Enhanced Tracking Protection by default

Mozilla has released a new version of Firefox browser in order to strengthen the security and privacy for users.

The Foundation quietly made announcement last week in a blogpost. With release of Firefox version 69, Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP) will be turned on by default for all users, which will block the third-party tracking cookies and crypto mining.

Mozilla started its Enhanced Tracking Protection in June as an optional feature, but this was limited to new users only. The company has finally made it available to all the users worldwide.

“With today’s release, we expect to provide protection for 100% of ours users by default. Enhanced Tracking Protection works behind-the-scenes to keep a company from forming a profile of you based on their tracking of your browsing behavior across websites — often without your knowledge or consent,” Marissa Wood, vice president of product at Mozilla explained in the post.

“Those profiles and the information they contain may then be sold and used for purposes you never knew or intended. Enhanced Tracking Protection helps to mitigate this threat and puts you back in control of your online experience,” she added.

Users will see a shield icon in the address bar when Enhanced Tracking Protection is enabled. If users want to track the companies that are blocked by Mozilla, they can simply click on the shield icon, navigate to the Content Blocking section, and then click on Blocking Tracking Cookies right next to Cookies.

Another new capability is a Script Mode, that will protect from fingerprint scripts. Users don’t want to run their fingerprint scripts on their browsers because these can include the computer configurations. Script Mode will be available by default in the future release.
